Mobile device applications can complement traditional stages of mental health treatment, including treatment monitoring, adherence to treatment plans, psychoeducation, symptom assessment and monitoring, and clinical decision support. An increasing number of patients and clinicians have access to smartphones that can run interactive apps (applications). The advent of available wireless networks, more affordable computing, and more ubiquitous computing makes telemedicine a much more cost-effective proposition. We will provide an overview of new technologies and how they can be used in different areas of the psychiatric provider and patient’s workflow.
